Peristaltic Pump Tubing
TSP offers a wide range of peristaltic pump tubing in six materials to match any sample chemistry. Tubing material selection is critical — the wrong material swells, degrades, or leaches contamination into the sample stream. TSP’s tubing range covers all ICP peristaltic pump configurations and all major instrument brands.
Pharmaprene
The most chemically resistant general-purpose ICP pump tubing. Excellent resistance to dilute acids (HNO3, HCl, HF), aqueous matrices, and moderate organic solvents. Longer service life than standard PVC. The default recommendation for most petroleum and lubricant ICP labs running acid digests. Can replace Santoprene.
PVC
Standard PVC peristaltic pump tubing for aqueous and mild-matrix samples. Good resistance to dilute acids and salts. Lower cost than specialty materials. Not recommended for organic solvents or concentrated acids. Wide availability across all ICP pump configurations.
PVC Solva (SolvaFlex / SolventFlex)
Solvent-resistant PVC formulation for organic solvent matrices. Suitable for direct aspiration of petroleum products, hydrocarbon solvents, and mixed aqueous-organic matrices. The recommended tubing for ICP labs running oil-based samples by direct aspiration rather than acid digest.
Viton
Fluoroelastomer tubing with outstanding resistance to concentrated acids (including HF), aggressive organic solvents, and high-temperature applications. The choice for the most chemically demanding ICP sample matrices. Higher cost — specify when standard materials are inadequate.
Silicone
Flexible, general-purpose silicone tubing. Excellent biocompatibility and wide temperature range. Less chemically resistant than Pharmaprene or Viton. Used where flexibility and low contamination risk are priorities over chemical resistance.
Santoprene
Thermoplastic elastomer tubing. Can be replaced with Pharmaprene in most ICP applications. Good general-purpose chemical resistance for aqueous matrices and dilute acid digests.

Which pump tubing material should I use for petroleum and oil-based ICP samples?
For ICP labs running petroleum products, lubricants, or oil digests, the tubing material depends on how the sample is prepared. If you run acid digests of oil samples (the most common approach), Pharmaprene is the recommended material — it resists dilute HNO3 and HCl and lasts significantly longer than standard PVC. If you run direct aspiration of petroleum products or hydrocarbon solvents without acid digestion, specify PVC Solva (SolventFlex) — it is formulated for organic solvent resistance where standard PVC would swell and fail.
