If you run acid digests of oil samples (the most common approach), Pharmaprene is the recommended material — it resists dilute HNO3 and HCl and lasts significantly longer than standard PVC. If you run direct aspiration of petroleum products or hydrocarbon solvents without acid digestion, specify PVC Solva (SolventFlex) — it is formulated for organic solvent resistance where standard PVC would swell and fail. The OptiMist XL eliminates this failure mode with a parallel path design that handles particulates over 300 µm and high total dissolved solids without blocking. For petroleum and lubricant ICP labs running oil digests, wear metals programs, or catalyst slurries, the OptiMist XL is the recommended starting point. For clean aqueous matrices with low TDS, a standard concentric is sufficient and lower cost.
